The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand.
(Frank Herbert)
The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery. (Anais Nin)
Stonehenge! What magnificence! What power!
It is a word that evokes feelings of magic, mystery and a little shiver from the depths
of our beings. It describes an ancient stone temple that has presented an enigma to
humanity for thousands of years. What is it? What was it built for, used for? Why had
so much effort, over so many years, been expended on its creation? Why does it have
such a profound, magical effect on people? If the stones could speak! What incredible
stories they could tell us! People are trying to find answers to many questions, one of
the most important qualities about Stonehenge is its aura of mystery.
Dear friends, I invite you to lift the veil of mystery and go to a virtual trip to Stonehenge.
The aim of the quest "If the stones could speak!" is to increase motivation for further foreign language learning, to expand cultural outlook, to use the Internet resources for useful purposes, to find and analyse information, to work in groups, to develop the pupils' social and interpersonal skills, to make presentations, booklets and photo albums.
I hope this activity will be interesting for you. You will work in groups. Your tasks are to find necessary information about Stonehenge, analyse it and to make a presentation (in Microsoft Office PowerPoint), a booklet (in Microsoft Office Publisher) and a photo album or slideshow (in Picasa or Movie Maker). Don't forget to consult the evaluation scheme.
