History

COVE Project (2001-2002)

COVE  was launched as an experimental project in the framework of IFIP TC5, and aimed  at assessing research results  and  practices in  virtual  enterprises  and electronic  business, leading  to  the  design  of  common  reference  models, cooperation  infrastructures, and prospects for further collaborative developments.

It was then expected that an IFIP sponsored initiative could contribute to the “harmonization” of the available disperse initiatives towards some form of common reference model and cooperation infrastructure. This initial activity was based on the creation and operation of a forum of participants and projects active in the field, covering a world-wide representation, which were expected to facilitate the exchange and refinement of knowledge and project results on new ways of working in networks of independent but cooperative nodes.

The project succeeded in achieving its objectives and at the end of its initial phase it was decided to propose its transformation into a Working Group. This proposal was approved be the IFIP General Assembly and the new WG started in 2003.
