Cheryl Walterskirchen 650-207-6591
Cheryl Walterskirchen has worked with, and training dogs most of her life . . . and loves it. As a profession dog trainer for over 20 she also understands how important it is to train people first, and that training people is much harder than training dogs. Cheryl has trained dogs to perform as Service dogs, as well as training dogs for therapy dog status and well-behaved household/family pets. All of which meshes nicely with her educational background from UCSC and CSU Humboldt in environmental studies/natural resources and wildlife management. In addition to training she consults on behavior issues to help people understand why their dogs do what they do, and how to work with each dogs' instincts to achieve the desired behaviors.
Cheryl started doing "official" therapy dog work in 1996. In the years since, she has volunteered in senior centers, libraries, elementary schools and convalescent facilities. Her belief is that therapy work is a perfect marriage of giving dogs a job they love and giving back to the community. Not all dogs can or want to do therapy work, but those that do give so much. She primarily does one on one training and but does offer group classes. scsmpacklead@gmail.com
