Reflection by Oluwaseun Ogunmola on Chapter 21&22 of the book How to be led by the Spirit - Kenneth Hagin
Chapter 21: My spirit? The flesh? Or the Holy Spirit?
Proverbs 20:27
The spirit God breathed into man is like a living lamp, a shining light searching into the innermost chamber of our being- The Passion Translation
Knowing fully well that at the point of salvation, we became a new man- a new spirit, our spirit was regenerated and formed to the image of Christ. We are no longer who we use to be, something new happened to us
2Cor 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! - NIV
The spirit of God dwells in us, so we are expected to think and act the way the spirit that dwells in us is. The new nature in us acts according to how God acts, that is what is expected, that is who we are!!!
1 John 3:9
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
The seed that is mentioned here is the spirit that was breathed into us by God that is expected to grow as we walk with him (relationship), our daily fellowship with him is like water that is added to the seed to grow.
Intimacy with the Father through His word
Romans 12:1-2
The Transforming Power of the Gospel Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.
Intimacy (fellowship) will help us be more familiar with what is going on in us. It helps us to know what God is saying, we know if it’s truly God speaking to our spirit. Let's bring this down to our human relationship i.e. the closer you are to a person, the more we get used to and familiar with the person. You will know if it's the person speaking even without seeing his/her face. At times, the person doesn’t have to talk out so loudly before you know what he/she is saying. Same thing applies to our relationship with God; through intimacy, you know it’s God's spirit communicating with you.
Chapter 22: I perceive
Acts 27:9-10
Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them, and said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.
To perceive means to discern, to know, to be aware of something. Having the spirit of God in us helps us to know even things ahead of time. We just have this knowing in our spirit of things to come, and our obedience and yielding to this make it more possible for the Holy Spirit to keep communicating with us and save us from danger.
