Cephalopods from Chile

Rocha (1997) reported 92 species belonging to 29 families from Chilean waters. Almost 16 of these species are fishing in Chile, but only two squids Dosidicus gigas and Loligo gahi, and two octopuses Octopus mimus and Enteroctopus megalocyathus are importants.

The diversity of cephalopods decrease towards high latitudes and represent three biogeographical units in Chile (Ibáñez et al. 2009).
