2023 Youth Council Standards
As representatives of Hyrum City, we need to act in a way that will reflect well upon our great city. All Youth Council members will be held to these standards. These standards were created and approved by the 2023 Leadership Board.
HAVE FUN ! ! ! – Yes, our activities are service based, but we have a lot of fun doing it!
Be Positive - When you have a positive attitude, it makes things better for you and those around you. You will get out of each activity what you put into it.
Build Friendships – We have the most fun with our friends – right? Let us reach out to the members of our council and build new friendships. Be sensitive to others and their situations. Be encouraging to all those around you. Speak kindly to and about the other members of the council. Don’t exclude anyone from participating with you in any activity.
Be Responsible and Show Commitment – You will be assigned to be on a committee to work with one of our Leadership Board. You will need to be responsible and complete the tasks assigned to you. Other people are depending on you. Be committed. If you cannot make it to one of the activities, please make sure that you contact your Leadership Board Representative so that we know who will not be there. If not, we will be counting on your help at each activity.
Work Hard and Be Courageous – At each activity, we expect the YC to work hard to accomplish the tasks assigned to us. Please don’t make others on the YC have to carry your work load as well. Some of the assignments that we have include interacting with others, such as the Senior Citizen Center, Holiday at Hardware, etc. At these activities, have courage to talk and associate with these people. Move a little bit more out of your comfort zone at each activity.
Show Respect - As we serve others, we need to show respect for them and the area where the activity is taking place. We also need to respect each other. Do not put others down. Uplift and build each other. If you have a problem arise with another YC member, please work it out with that person and not gossip about it behind their back. If you feel that you need to discuss the matter, please talk to one of your advisors.
Honesty – There will be times during your service on the YC, that you will be handling money. Sometimes, there won’t be an advisor or other YC members around. Being honest when no one else is around shows your integrity.
Appearance – Please dress appropriately for each activity. You will be given a Youth Council T-Shirt. You should wear this t-shirt to all activities, except those specifically stated otherwise. Please dress in a way that shows respect for yourself and those around you. If you have a question on what this means, please contact one of your advisors.
Dating – If you by chance start dating someone on the youth council, we ask that you leave the dating relationship out of our YC activities. What this means is no PDA during activities. This also applies to those who might bring a date, who is not on YC, to any of our activities.
