Investment Return – A Whole New Breed of Financial Calculator
Investment Return is a whole new breed of 21st century Financial Calculator. Older financial calculators, even some available on the iPhone, forced you to deal with obscure buttons and a single numeric input field. Investment Return uses the powerful programming tools of the iPhone: Date Pickers, custom Financial Prompts, and dynamic Date Calculations to frame the financial problem in a form that you understand. Investment Return calculates your compound interest return on an Investment, after computing your holding period to the day. There is another Investment Return calculator that takes Dividends into account and a Retirement Calculator that lets you plan your retirement to the day!

What is the Return on my Investment? I bought a stock, or another investment, 3 and ½ years ago for x and sold it for y today. What was my compounded annual return on that investment? Inv. Return solves this problem and allows you to input your buy and sell dates using convenient iPhone Date Pickers. Your Investment Holding Period is computed for you, to the day. After inputting your Buy and Sell price you are presented with your annual gain, using daily compounding for that investment along with your holding period in days and years. The compound return calculations presented by Investment Return are based on industry-standard compound interest formulas and can be shown to reconcile with standard financial functions on tools such as an Hewlett Packard 12c ® calculator and the Microsoft Excel ® spreadsheet for specific problems.
What is my Return on an Investment that pays a Dividend, Interest Payment, or Rent? Dividend uses all the features of the calculator above but adds the feature of being able to add a Dividend, recurring Interest, or Rent payment to the calculation. You input your buy and sell date, your buy and sell price, and the annual recurring dividend/rent/interest payment you received for holding that investment. You are then presented with your annual gain, which includes both your capital gain and the return from your dividend/interest payment/rent. The return for your dividend/interest payment/rent is shown as a separate and verifiable yield output in the result.
What will my Retirement Nest Egg be? There are many Retirement Calculators. But have you ever met one that let’s you specify the Day of your Retirement? The Investment Return Retirement Calculator takes your current retirement savings balance, your planned annual contribution until retirement, the Interest Rate you expect to receive on your retirement investments, and then lets you input your planned retirement date on a Date Picker. From these inputs, Retirement calculates the amount of your nest egg at the future date using industry standard future value calculations. Retirement can be used as a modeling tool. Spin the year column of the date picker slowly forward or backward and watch how that affects your nest egg.
The three calculators, Inv. Return, Dividend, and Retirement along with a Help screen are presented with an easy-to-use Tab bar at the bottom of the screen that allows you to rapidly switch between the calculators.
