Uhu

The Eagle-Owl (Bubo bubo), one of the largest and more powerful species of owls, is resident in much of Eurasia. The great size, ear tufts and orange eyes make this a distinctive species. The call of the Eagle Owl is a deep resonant “ooh-hu“.

Owls have been both revered and feared throughout many civilisations from ancient to recent times. Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, civilization, and strategy, is frequently depicted with an owl named the Glaucus perched on her head. This pairing evolved in tangent so that even in present day the owl is upheld as a symbol of perspicacity and erudition.

Many noble families in France, Denmark, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom used the owl when designing the heraldry for a family. Many modern countries use owls in their crests, such as Zambia and Chile.
