As the name suggests, GIS 510 was an introduction to Geographic Information Systems, and in particular, to the use of ArcGIS. During this course, I learned the importance of projections and techniques to ensure all layers of the map document are projected in the same coordinate system. I learned the elements of a good map. Toward successful completion of this course, I was given the opportunity to take some of the ESRI training modules. A significant feature to all the projects I generated were well-documented procedure logs. I learned how to produce models for those circumstances in which the same steps would be used for successive projects. And, I gained experience with the use of the various tools, such as buffer, clip, intersect, merge, dissolve, etc. All of these experiences were put to use to produce a map and an analysis of how wind farms may potentially influence the rainfall patterns of eastern Colorado.
