Doug Dougherty

I first saw Mr. Dougherty about five years ago when he made a presentation to a family law reform group that I was a member of. Several years later, when I was doing research concerning my case, I came across a case that was related to the issue Mr. Dougherty had spoken about. (It was, in fact, Luke v Luke--the first Ohio Appellate Court case to draw out the implications of Pauly v Pauly for computing a presumptive child support in a shared parenting situation.) Out of the blue, I called him about the case. We had many discussions about the case and, later, other cases that followed in the same line.

Over the years, I have come to know his thinking and legal temperament very well. He is very bright, extremely thorough, and--importantly for this issue--capable of thinking independently to take an argument to its logical conclusion.

On a personal note, Doug has given generously of his time to family law reform organization and to me personally, as well as to other fathers. He treats everyone with respect and courtesy. If all attorneys were like Doug, we would have to quit telling lawyer jokes.
