About Steve & Susan

Steve Horst is the 7th generation on the family farm in Schaefferstown, Lebanon County. He graduated from Millersville University, with a degree in Sociology, after serving four years in the Army. He and Susan Lenehan, a native of Connecticut were married in 1973, following Susan's completion of a Master's degree in Special Education from Penn State. They moved to Berks County where Steve took a position at Wernersville State Hospital. Steve recently retired as Therapeutics Activites Director and Susan from her position as Director of the Foster Grandparent Program at Berks County Office of Aging.

Steve's Uncle, Charles Huber, of Schaefferstown, founder of Huberhaus Pottery, passed the tradition of Pennsylvania Dutch Redware on to his nephew, John Huber, who spent 15 years developing his skills and reputation as a potter. In 2006, Susan and Steve apprenticed with John, Steve's cousin, with the intent of continuing the pottery business upon John's retirement. Since January 2007, Steve and Susan became the official owners of Huberhaus Pottery, and are working together to promote the awareness of traditional Pennsylvania Dutch Redware.
