Each YW should turn her funds into the Ward Clerk using a regular tithing envelope and on the slip under “other” write in “Young Women’s Camp”. The ward clerk will then submit one payment to the stake clerk covering the cost of all YW in their unit. Please set an early due date for this money. We suggest two weeks prior to the stake deadline. (The best way to collect the money is at a parent meeting.)The Stake Presidency has set forth a NO REFUND POLICY. If your ward will be doing a fundraiser after April 1st, your bishop will need to submit the payment from the ward budget for all yw and then the money from the fundraiser can be put back in the ward budget.
Age Cut-Off Policy:
All young women turning 12-18 this year are invited to attend.
Ward and YW Responsibilities:
1. Learn what a testimony is and what it isn't. Practice being sensitive to the Spirit and learning how he speaks to you. Wards are encouraged to teach on this topic.
2. Have an activity, led by YCLs, to teach camp songs to the YW. This could be incorporated with a campfire/smores night, camp skills night, a campout, you decide!
3. Feel free to incorporate the Camp Theme into your routine. Wednesday nights, Sunday lessons, etc.
Bathrooms:
Sanitary supplies should be deposited in cans or bags, NOT IN THE TOILETS! All floors (including stalls) should be swept clean; toilets, sinks and showers scrubbed; mirrors shined; and equipment returned to storage. All floors should be scrubbed when you do the final cleaning at the end of your camp week. Your help in reminding the girls to be clean every time they use the restrooms will be appreciated.
Bugs:
Bugs are always a part of camp. Bring plenty of bug repellant (to be used at all times while at camp). The bug “wipes” work very well and help with preventing the downwind inhaling of bug sprays. Wearing a hat will help to protect campers’ heads from ticks. Everyone is encouraged to check often for ticks. Some people feel that taking vitamin B-12 before (at least 1 week) and during camp helps to prevent chiggers. Spraying Permanone or Permethrine on clothing and allowing it to dry before packing may also help. Do not spray these chemicals on your body!
Canteens and Water Bottles:
Every YW and Leader must have a canteen or water bottle with them at all times. Keeping hydrated at camp is a priority! If you have cute/fun ideas to keep the girls drinking, please let us know.
Disabilities:
Please let us know as soon as possible if you have any YW or leaders with special needs so that we can be aware of what we can do to help make their camping experience be a positive one.
First Aid Kits:
Each YW and Leader should have a personal first-aid kit with them. Girls can care for their own “boo boos” with their own first aid kits. If they can’t take care of it, they should go to the Level Leaders for help. Then, if it is something the Level Leader cannot handle, they can go to the Camp Medic.
Severe Weather:
In the event of a severe weather threat, young women will follow the direction of the leaders to a designated safe place for campers.
Cell phones:
The Stake has a “No Cell Phone” policy at YW Camp. We ask that the YW leaders please inform the girls and parents of this policy. We also ask that the YW, Parents, and Leaders support the Stake in this policy while at camp. The Stake Leaders & YCLs will have cell phones in use as emergency contact numbers. Please make sure all cell phones and other electronic devices are left turned off in the car.
Standards:
We ask that all YW and Leaders abide by the standards set forth by the Church and our Stake Leaders. Remember that we stand together “as witnesses of God at all times and in all things and in all places”.
As such our dress, music, reading material, activities, language, conversations, attitude and behavior should be in keeping with what the Savior would have us do and be.
Dress Standards:
The Stake Presidency has set forth the following dress standards for camp:
Shorts: Knee-length. That means that the shorts must touch the top of the kneecap when standing and when the pants are worn at the appropriate waistline. (Not the 4-finger rule). Shorts may be longer than knee length, but not shorter. Cut off sweatpants, cotton p.j. pants and old jeans are ideal. Make sure they are not too tight or revealing and are without holes. Yoga pants/Leggings are acceptable as long as a loose shirt or shorts cover your bottom.
Shirts: Full-length shirts- when arms are held high above the head the shirt must still cover the midriff and back. Shirts must have sleeves that cover the shoulders. No inappropriate messages or pictures or see-through material.
Footwear: Shoes must be worn at all times; one pair can be sandals with heel & toe straps and tread. It is MANDATORY to bring a pair of old tennis shoes or water shoes when participating in water activities. (Pond has lots of fishing hooks in it.) Tennis shoes are required for the ropes course.
Swimsuits: Must be a modest swimming suit. No French cut, low cut, or see-through midriff. You may wear other clothes for the water activities if desired.
If a YW is inappropriately dressed, a Leader will discuss the situation with the YW.
Medications:
All Prescription medications need to be in the original container and clearly marked with the YW/Leader’s name on the outside of a baggy. Nurse will have all non-prescription medications on hand so you do not need to bring any other medications. I know that this might be challenging for the Leaders but we must remind ourselves that WE LEAD BY EXAMPLE!!
No Pranks:
It is Stake policy that pranks of any type are not allowed at YW Camp. This includes snipe hunts and any type of “hazing”. We ask that the leaders encourage the YW to focus on making new friends and treating others as they would want to be treated.
Safety Rules:
No one, including leaders, is to leave camp at any time without letting one of the Stake Young Women Presidency know.
Non-members:
“Nonmembers who are willing to abide by Church standards may also be included.” (Young Women Camp Guide, p. 2) When you meet with a non-member girl who desires to come to camp, please include her parents. Help them understand the conditions (ticks, heat, etc), standards and purpose of YW Camp.
