Our process to make our PBL project began when my partner Rolando and I chose, Oooh! Aaah! Style Flame Test, as our project. We made our website and planned the date that we will work on our project with our Chemistry teacher, Mr. Ovezov. My partner and I took a look at the safety procedures to make sure that we'll stay safe during this hazardous experiment.

The day finally arrived to work on the project and we meet up with Mr. Ovezov to give us some assistance. We had to cancel our track practice in order to have time to perform this experiment. He informed us of the materials we need to perform the project and the safety equipment we need to avoid injury. With all the materials in arms reach, we placed the salts from our project in a order that is easy to remember. Mr. Ovezov began to set up his recording equipment and I was a little nervous about recording a video because I thought, I would make a fool of myself. But it wasn't to bad because there was only 3 of us in the room, plus my partner and I would make sure none of our friends will watch our embarrassing video.

We were working with a chemical named Methyl Alcohol that was very hazardous and both Rolando and I were working very cautiously around the alcohol as we were intimidated by the harms that can be brought if you somehow swallow the liquid. After we poured the alcohol into the many different salts, we mixed it up. Then it finally came down to the highlight of the experiment, lighting up all the salt-alcohol mixes. I was the one in charge of using the burner to light up the substances and I was worried about catching on fire. Rolando was informed to turn off the lights and that was my cue to light them up. The flames were very colorful and was slowly getting bigger.

Mr. Ovezov congratulated me on my good work and told me to,"put it out", which I had no idea how to do. I was really confused on what to do and so was Rolando until he told us to place the beaker over the flame to cut off the oxygen. It was working, but we only had one beaker and there was still 4 active flames that were melting the dish they were placed in. We all began to run around the room to attain more beakers and we had to move fast to beat the flames. With the help of Mr.Ovezov, the flames were successfully distinguished, only with some of the melted dish remained.

After all that excitement, we made our closing statements on our video, and we pray the no one will ever watch it. We thanked Mr. Ovezov for his help and we must continue to work on the remaining requirements we need done for this amazing PBL project. The project was a success and we were lucky that we had no need to repeat the experiment. We would continue to work on our website, adding photos and new data that we learned from this amazing light show experiment.
