I have chosen to focus on the rainbow light diffraction for my Science PBL project. For my ELA connection, I will complete a journal I will present/provide a journal by adding it as a document under my PBL website.
journal entry 1- Today I choose my Pbl physics project Rainbow Glass Diffraction. It got approved by my teacher and i studied the information. I looked over the materials and questions it asked. I later that day looked up some videos on other people who did the same project.
journal entry 2- Today I headed to the lab and asked my teacher for the materials. Once i got my materials which took a very long time because all the materials were everywhere. The one thing i didn't have was the laser beam. So i just used the Christmas lights and rainbow glass and some 3D glasses. There was a difference between the rainbow glasses and the 3D glasses. I took some pictures and studied the difference again and wrote the patterns down.
journal entry 3- Today i answered some questions about my project and started my Pbl website. I talked what my project was about and i had to show how it worked. I took some more pictures and added it to a video and took a video on my project with the pictures.
journal entry 4- Today i was doing the other tasks like added the videos and pictures to my Pbl project and talked about my school and then i did some background research on my project. the back ground research took me a while until i finally found out of my project is the Holographic diffraction grating lenses separate light from any source into its spectral components for study and analysis. Diffraction Gratings are used for the direct viewing and analysis of spectra from different gas tubes and other light sources.
journal entry 5- Today i was looking more into it and found more on my project and it said Over the centuries, our view of light has changed dramatically. The first real theories about light came from the ancient Greeks. Many of these theories sought to describe light as a ray -- a straight line moving from one point to another. Pythagoras, best known for the theorem of the right-angled triangle, proposed that vision resulted from light rays emerging from a person's eye.
journal entry 6: Today i'm telling the people on my page how to to do it so i said "You're going to want to write down the pattern that is on the wall that the diffraction grating makes. You figure out what the diffraction and the interference and the same with the regular light you shine through. Final thing is shine the regular light through the diffraction grating as well as the laser beam."
journal entry 7: Today i did the stem page for extra credit.
journal entry 8: Today i found the principles of my project and wrote it down in my Pbl project tab that the size of a wave is measured as its wavelength, which is the distance between any two corresponding points on successive waves, usually peak to peak or trough to trough. The wavelengths of the light we can see range from 400 to 700 manometers (or billionths of a meter). This was Einstein's explanation: If the energy in light comes in bundles, then one can think of light as containing tiny lumps, or photons
journal entry 9: Today i took another video for my ela component and ss connection and posted it
