The option to choose any physics/engineering related subject for my PBL project made me jump at the chance to choose the Pinhole Camera, a subject that had been part of our curriculum at the beginning of the year for only one reason; photography has always been a point of interest for me, and it’s always brought me fond memories. I remember the very first time I took a photo by myself, I took it on a black eighties canon camera, the kind where you have to develop the photos at the local K-Mart. My mom helped me keep my hands steady I pressed the button, but I thought the picture was the greatest thing I'd ever created.
Then I had the experience when I grew a little older of having a camera all to myself, one of the disposable ones you bought at a drugstore. It had film enough for 30 pictures, and I got it to take pictures on my first grade field trip, however, the morning of the field trip I got so excited and nervous, I ended up making myself sick, and staying home. So, the next day, I took my little black disposable camera with a cardboard sleeve, went into my apartment’s courtyard, and took pictures of everything and everyone, my family, my friends, trees, cars, even strange birds.
That sealed the deal. Since then, I loved taking pictures with a camera and going to get them developed, and later put into a computer. When I discovered Photoshop in desktop publishing in my ninth grade year, it gave me a chance to explore a new medium I’d never had the opportunity before.
While I never had too many opportunities to join a photography class or take a course in school, it that hasn’t taken my fondness for taking pictures away, and I don’t think it ever will. As long as I’ve got my camera, I’ll always be capturing memories.
