My topic is Total Internal Reflection.
Journal Entry 1:
In my project, Snell's Law takes a major part because its the only formula that we can use to find the critical angle. Willebrord Snell is the founder of the Snell's Law. He was born in the Netherlands. A laser is a device that emits light through a process of optical amplification based on the stimulated emission of electromagnetic radiation. Laser is the acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Albert Einstein first explained the theory of stimulated emission in 1917, which became the basis of laser. Those are the two major things in my project, the rest is just simple process. I will be using the laser to show that it follows the water stream wherever it goes, it can be curving left to right and anything. Snell's Law, I will use that show you the critical angle, it's when the laser makes a reflection.
Journal Entry 2:
Im going to talk a little about the procedure of my project. First I'm going set up a soda bottle by drilling a hole near the bottom of the bottle. Next, I'll begin with a drill bit that has a diameter which is slightly larger than the diameter of the laser that will be used. Then, I'm going to use an object to cover up the hole and then fill the bottle with water. The cap will prevent leaking because it creates a vacuum in the bottle. I'm going to have the bottle stand on top of objects so that the water can fall from the hole into the sink or other objects you use. Then, I'm going to have the laser point through the bottle, the laser has to be stable and point exactly through the hole. You have to carefully remove the object you used to cover up the hole and then unscrew the top of the soda bottle. The light should reflect within the stream of water so that you could see at least a few points of reflection. Finally, the light should be visible through the entire stream. If the reflections of the light isn't clear, it may be necessary to expand the hole by drilling through the existing hole with a larger drill bit. This process may need to be repeated several times. Thats basically everything I will be going to do in my project.
