The hovercraft is a vehicle that hovers. It works off of air and a smooth surface. This vehicle is capable of hovering on land and water. The hover craft was a big step in technology because we made a vehicle that can float . If the hovercraft was invented way back then, we possibly could have made a flying car by now.
The hovercraft was invented by a man named Christopher Cockerell . He was born June 4, 1910 in Cambridge, UK. Christopher Cockerell's idea was to build a vehicle that would move over the water's surface, floating on a layer of air. This would reduce friction between the water and vehicle. To test his hypothesis he put one smaller can inside a larger can and used a hairdryer to blow air into them. The downward thrust produced was greater when one can was inside the other rather than air just being blown intoone can.Then he enlarged the scale and then eventually made the first hovercraft, the SRN1.
The hovercraft is pretty cool. They can travel up to 80 miles an hour or more. It is now used for recreation and some lifeguards use it .It is quick on water so thats why the lifeguards use it. It ius also used in races. They have competitions and everything.
The hovercraft's future is not yet known, but i believe it will be somehow converted into a flying vehicle because in GTA San Andreas ,when you jump off a hill with it, it flies for a while, therefor proving my thesis. Okay it might not work in real life but the hovercraft is still an awesome vehicle.
I belive hovercrafts are the vehicle of the future. They are amphibious vehicles so they travel on land and water. If scientist worked on making the hovercraft easier to move on land, it might just be what we drive every day . We could drive over water so it would be easier to get to work. There is super advanced versions of the hovercraft but they are not open to the public so much because they are worth millions of dollars.
