INTRODUCTION:
What are the slope values for all letters in the alphabet? Our project is about having to draw the Alphabet out then finding out the slope of each line of the letter. We also have to create a math alphabet and we would include a math term for each letter, as if it was a kids song.
MATERIALS:
poster
colored markers
ruler
pencils
erasers
PROCEDURE:
We would gather our materials.
Get our materials and start drawing out our letter
Figure out the slope of each alphabet letter
Write it down on the poster and color code it.
Ex: if the slope is positive use green, if the slope if negative use purple
5. Then make a word for each letter of the alphabet using a math term.
Ex: The letter "A" can be for "Algebra"
SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLE/ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING
We just have to use the slope formula which is
RISE/RUN
Mathematical Principle:
Slope is rise over run over m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1). To find the slopes of the letters, we had to graph each letter on the coordinate plane. Then, we picked two points on each line. One point was (x1, y1) and the other point was (x2, y2). We put the numbers into the slope formula and found the slope m.
Positive slope is when the line goes up from left to right. Negative slope is when the line goes down from left to right. Zero slope is when the slope stays the same. Undefined slope is when the line goes straight up and down.
How did you find the slope of the lines?
To find the slope of the line what I did was:
Identify two points in one of the letters that I have (Whichever it is.)
Next, you select one that is x1 and y1 and another one that is x2 and y2
Finally you use the slope formula equation to calculate slope
Is there a way to generate the sign of slope for the lines?
There is actually a way to generate the slope for the lines, what you could do would be moving the like or better said the letter somewhere else that way you are able to get a different slope if that makes it easier.
Fill in the blank
When a line has a positive slope, it runs from left to right
When a line has a negative slope, it falls from left to right
When a line is Horizontal, it only runs from left to right and has a slope of zero.
When a line is Vertical, it only rises and has an undefined slope.
