Today on my PBL I started researching my project. My project is Lenz law and Eddy current. I thought that I was going to take me half an hour or an hour at the most. It wasn't like this. The topic is a vast topic. Lenz law and Eddy current is not only about electricity but as well about magnetism and magnetic fields. Instead of the half and hour i thought i triple i was doing my investigation for close to two hours. I felt frustrated after this because i took more time than i thought.
Today I was analyzing the information of what i discover yesterday. Yesterday I learn that Eddy Current are circular electric currents induced within conductors by a changing magnetic field in the conductor, due to Faraday's law of induction. Eddy currents flow in closed loops within conductors, in planes perpendicular to the magnetic field. Meaning the electrical current go on a circular way and that this current are created by magnetism. And that Lenz's law is a common way of understanding how electromagnetic circuits obey Newton's third law and the conservation of energy. This wasn't as frustrated as looking for it. However, it was kind of hard to fully understand the concept.
Now that I have all my information i work on the research paper. It was a complex topic however I mannish to write three pages. It wasn't easy i felt frustrated more than once, however I completed the assignment. I began with my introductory paragraph that explain the concept. Then with my body that gave explanation how both Lenz law and Eddy current work and as well some real life examples. I took around 4 hours about all my afternoon went writing that research paper. I really hope it will be a good enough research paper i feel so proud about my work.
Now that I have finish my research paper i decide to investigate my materials. I watch different videos about it. I saw videos in the videos that are different type of ways to demonstrate it. I saw that it can be with a copper tube or copper plate. My experiment demonstration consist with the copper tube. I think the copper tube is easier to demonstrate because the one with the copper tube is hard to demonstrate. My materials are a copper tube, a magnet and a metal sphere. This materials are going to be able to find on the science lab in my school.
Today i look for my materials. My materials are a copper tube, a magnet and a metal sphere. Normally copper is not magnetic. When the metal sphere is thrown its show what it suppose to happen when the magnet is thrown .However, when the magnet is thrown in the the tube when falling it creates its own magnetic field. This is explained with Newton law of conservation. I have to admit I had fun looking for the materials, that I found in the science room.
Today I did my social study component of my PBL. I discovered a lot of things. Like for example that lenz law is name like that because in 1835 Heinrich Lenz stated the law that now bears his name. An electric current induced by a changing magnetic field will flow such that it will create its own magnetic field that opposes the magnetic field that created it. I also discovered that my project is the technology involved in the Japan levitating train. That made me think of how something that is simple is the base of a modern technological advance to a greener future with less use of fossil fuels.
Today was finally the day i did my project. My project was really small it took like 2 minutes to perform. However, i took like 45 minutes to do it all including pictures, the video and doing different demonstration with the same concept. I took a long time doing this because my camera wasn't working, it wasn't taking pictures or videos. The solution of my predicament was to go looking for a friend with a phone that will take the video and record me doing the experiment. My friend was nice enough to do it. After she took the pictures and the video she send it to my by email. Essentially this was really easy except for the part of taking the camera.
Now that I have the video, I started editing it. It was complicated to find a website to upload my video and edited it. When I finally found it I spend around fifteen minute understanding the program. After discovering the concept of the website i started editing the video. It was easy i took around half an hour to finish editing, that included music, effects, title and ending. When finish with this process I had uploaded to YouTube and then to my website. I felt proud of my work after it.
Now that I finish with more than half of my web site i decided to contact the student that did my project last year to compare my website with his. After that I notice I was missing some essentials so ask him for some advice on how to improve it. I took his advice and I spend around one hour and a half making it better. My project I believe is really interesting and I liked a lot. I have put a lot of effort on it. I have spend hours perfecting every detail possible. I really like my project.
After doing more than enough work I started doing and easy part at least for me that was to upload everything I have done. I design my website. I design it with a design that has to do with electricity and magnetism. The font and color contrasted the design so it could be noticeable. Then I uploaded the files that each on its corresponding section. I really hope I win a prize due that I work really hard on this project.
