The Steam Engine changed the modern world, by basically and literally driving it through its progress. These are the some of the engineering connections.The steam engine was improved by James Watts in the industrial revolution, which helped create lots of the technology we have today. In the 19th century, the steam engine was used for many machines such as helping to move heavy objects, getting water out of coal, iron and many other types of mines. It created factories around the world, which lots of the technology we have to day came from. The steam engine is the foundation of all mechanical technology in the past and present, and it was the first true source of automatic energy/power (not including water or wind energy).
In the 1800, many people use to do everything by hand, using the power of what was given to them, like the power of man, or nature. But, thanks to Thomas Newcomen and James Watts, the steam engine helped society with many of their problems.
First, the steam engine helped us with our travelling. It made us able to travel much farther and faster with more people.Example;Trains
Trains were and are used to transport lots of supplies across great distances as well as transporting people. That was really helpful to people and their businesses, instead of transporting a small amount of cargo such as wood, fur, and coal, they could supply thousands of supplies in a single trip by a train. This was extremely important in the 1800 especially for business owners and suppliers. Today although trains are no longer steam run, they are one of our main transports of supplies in Canada, and many people still use the train for transportation today.
Another is the Boat, instead of using the wind of the ocean, or the rivers, we could cross with bigger boats at a faster paces. The steam boat was more efficient then anything before it. The steam engine really helped with people's transportation and transporting supplies.
