Narrative Essay

When my class was first assigned our PBL, choosing a one was a rather daunting task. It was hard to find a project that We did not know what to expect. I really enjoyed being able to see the plethora of art based on mathematics. Many famous painters use a symmetrical art style,

After beginning research for the social studies component of this project, I stumbled upon an artist and inventor that I had loved, Leonardo Da Vinci. He was famous for works of art like "Mona Lisa" and ones that used large amounts of math to create. Many people argue that Da Vinci himself used lots of mathematics in his art and it is evident. Some of his pieces, in a way feel like they have large amounts of symmetry despite there being no symmetry. Works like the Mona Lisa feel as if they have symmetry when in truth they don't.

One symmetrical piece of artwork by Leonardo Da Vinci known as "Vitruvian Man", which shows a sketch of a man, symbolizing the mutable nature of man. In the renaissance era, many people found mathematics in everyday things, such as the human body, plants, and architecture. This idea was reflected in the art of the time.

which I used in my project.

My algebra teacher was very supportive of me, and answered any questions about functions and inequalities I had. I learned there is a large volume of function types, linear, quadratic, binomial, trinomial, and many more.

The picture I have chosen is a very simple animated picture of a tiger, the mascot of Harmony Science Academy. When first starting on my project, I had to decide the essential lines, and how to map them. I started by drawing the image, as symmetrical as possible on graph paper. I had to use lines that are able to be easily formed with functions. With the hard work, and many mistakes, my final image was created.
