PROCEDURE
Get set of stairs, if not available you can always make your own
Put slinky on top of stairs near the edge
Tip slinky down the stairs and record what you see
It might not go all the way down the first time but keep trying till you get it right
first what is inertia? Inertia is a tendency of an object to resist change in its state of motion. More massive objects have more inertia
when the slinky is on top of the stairs its at rest and has stored potential energy but once it is starts going down the stairs and gravity affects it,
the potential energy is converted to kinetic energy and the Slinkyis able to act the way it does.
Although it may look simple its a bit more complex than it looks As the slinky moves down the steps,
energy is transferred along its length in a longitudinal or compressional wave allowing to move the way it does
