For my English component, I completed a journal log. This allowed me to keep on track with my time and able to look back on all of the steps of completing the project. These are my logs:
August 2013 - Selected project (compression ignition)
I browsed through several topics finally deciding on the compression ignition. I chose this one because the topic interested me and it made me curious how a cotton ball could ignite from pressure without any outside force of heat.
August 2013 - Gathered materials and started to create website
I created a new Gmail in order to create this website. I got assistance from my physics teacher to gather the supplies that I needed, which mainly consisted of a PASCO compression igniter and cotton balls. He had the equipment in his lab.
September - October 2013 - Selected ELA and SS components. Researched and completed the tasks.
I selected this component in order to keep track of what I was doing in order to complete this project. I chose this over the other opinions, one which consisted of writing an essay. For my social studies component, I researched where compression igniters were used. I found out that they are used in the engines of vehicles.
November 2013 - Created "About my school" page and "my pbl project" page
I created a page which provides brief information about Harmony Public Schools. I also made a page in which I go in depth about compression igniters.
December 2013- Conducted the "investigation" on compression ignition
I referred back to my handout about compression ignition and researched the six questions that were provided. The questions basically asked about the science behind the principle. I then uploaded the investigation to my "about my pbl" page.
January 2014 - Created PBL video
I used Window's Movie Maker to prepare my video. I gathered pictures and video and did a voice over explaining my project. I then uploaded the video to YouTube and further uploaded it to this website under the "home" page.
February 2014 - Created compression ignition brochure
I followed a template and used my website as a reference to my brochure. My brochure briefly describes my project and provides a QR code that leads to my website and to my PBL video. I then uploaded my brochure to my website under the "compression ignition" page.
