My project is Groan Tubes and my SS Connections project is it's historical connection with history. This is not necessarily an important device in history, but the way it works is vital to life as we know it. The idea of gravity was first thought of between 1684 and 1687 by Isaac Newton. He believed that there was a force pulling all objects to the ground, which he later named gravity. Frequency is the number of a repeating even per unit time. The groan tube is described as being a long tube with two ends. One of the ends is open and the other is closed. Inside the groan tube is a smaller tube with similar ends. When you flip the tube up-side down, gravity acts upon the groan tube, forcing the smaller inner tube to be pulled down. When the inner tube is pulled down, air rushed through the inner tube creating a sound. Now, depending on the end of where the inner tube is heading towards, the sound may very. For instance, if the inner tube goes down towards the open end, the length of the tube decreases, making the wavelength decrease as well, which then creates a higher frequency and a shrill sound. In conclusion, no one really understands how gravity works, it is believed that without gravity, the world, no, THE WHOLE UNIVERSE WOULD COLLAPSE!
A good example of my project is an event that occurred on July 1, 1940. The details about this event are as followed: The Tacoma Narrows Bridge at Puget Sound in the state of Washington was completed. However, from the day that it opened, the bridge seemed to experience oscillations. On November 7, 1940, the bridge started to undulate persistently for three hours. At 10:00 AM, something appeared to snap and the bridge began oscillating wildly; even at one point the bridge being uneven by a difference of twenty-eight feet. Fortunately, the only life lost that day was a pet dog.
