Airzooka Smoke Rings

Introduction:

~The AirZooka is basically a bucket smoke ring generator. The AirZooka is a bucket with a hole on the bottom and a plastic covering on the top hole. By hitting the plastic on the back of the AirZooka, the AirZooka fires a vortex of air. The smoke rings created by the smoke ring cannon are in the shape of a vortex called torus, torus is a mathematical description for donut shaped; this is because the air rings are rotating, the velocity of the air in the inside the cannon is greater than the velocity of the air outside of it.

~Driving Question: Why is the smoke coming out of the bucket shaped like a ring/circle?

Materials:

~Gardman Bucket ~Fog Machine ~Fog Liquid

Procedure:

~Fill your AirZooka with the the fog created from the smoke generator. Then pat the AirZooka on the back gently to create the smoke rings.

Safety Regulations:

~ Do not drink the fog liquid of the smoke generator. Do not let any children under 5 years play with the smoke generator. Do not use the smoke generator in a small enclosed space.

Scientific Principle:

~The Bernoulli Principle: it states that as the air picks up speed, then the air pressure will drop, thus the air in the ring has a lower pressure that the air that surrounds it. The air around it pushes it inward keeping it in the form of a ring, and so a smoke ring comes out.
