History of Algebra
Driving Question
Aren't you curious about how certain topic(s) were created in Algebra?
Introduction
In my project I will be writing an essay about the History of Algebra. The purpose of writing my essay is to strengthen reading and writing skills, and present what I already know in a vivid way. I will be writing my essay as if I were to actually use it and present it globally in the real world. This takes an everyday life style and uses it to my own benefits for learning Algebra as well as math.
This takes the responsibilities of being prepared and more appropriate grammar and writing skills This is an everyday life type of project it's based on the real world, so even if it wasn't meant to it will prepare me for future writing essay's. It is as simple as the title, using the resources I have such as PowerPoint I will create an "full essay" for the History of Algebra that I will write up and update.

Background Research
Main Idea
History of Multiplication & (Background Research) for the History of Algebra
There are really two parts of Algebra
1. Classical
Which consist of equations and having to find the missing or unknown number.
2.Abstract Algebra
Which consist of studying rings, groups, fields. We know it today as Modern Algebra
Egyptian Algebra
Egyptian math and algebra are based on the Rhind Papyrus written in 1650 B.C.-1850 B.C. At the time they could only solve linear equations in “one unknown” We call that method today, “method of false position.” It was rhetorical, used no symbols and were stated AND solved verbally
Cairo Papyrus
300 B.C. Egyptians were solving problems that were equivalent to having two second degree equations in two unknowns. Egyptians were not very good at handling fractions, though
Babylonian Algebra
Old Babylonian math period (1800 - 1600 B.C.) was advanced. Their numeric system was much more higher in advanced. They knew of solving equivalent quadratic equations . Even though they recognized one root, it had to be positive, they created the quadratic formula, only recognized positive rational numbers, and use of symbols, but would never explain their explanations
Greek Geometrical Algebra
Greeks used classical method and did not recognize irrational numbers. Many equations of algebra. They achieved in applying deductive reasoning and describing procedures
Diophantine Algebra
Greek mathematician, Diaphanous, in 250 A.D., He first showed the way to shorten words, letters, in the middle of words and writing equations the rhetorical style were common and remained for a long time. He also solves indeterminate equations. He had no “determined” method. He accepted only rational and positive numbers, thus ignoring all other numbers and solutions that were not equivalent. If an quadratic equation had more than one solution, he only picked one, but that doesn't mean that A system of thought in which conclusions are justified by means of previously assumed or proved statements
Procedures:
Step 1: You will need PowerPoint so if you don't already have access to it you will need to download the software.
Step 2: You will need to gather all supplies as such paper, pencil, and computer w/ internet
Step 3: You need to use your own words and explain the process of the history of algebra, history of multiplication and a way to present it.
Step 4: You will need to proof-read your work and then submit it to your teacher.
Step 5: You will need to begin following the steps on the PBL.Harmonytx.org website.
Step 6: You have to complete the ELA and Social Studies Component.
Step 7: You have to complete the About my School page and explain whatever you have participated in and describing your school.
Step 8: At the end, you should have completed all of the steps on the PBL website. Make sure to not leave out any links that are important.

1. Why did you select this topic? Explain.
I picked this topic because it was intriguing to me and I wanted to get more information about it
2. How can you describe the importance of back then? Explain.
The importance of Mathematics can be described by indifferent, not as complex, and has been developed in so many ways.
3. Why do you believe people wanted to discover new things? Explain.
People wanted to believe and discover new things to explain what couldn't be explained and to expands the Math world
4. How would you summarize what you learned? Explain.
I learned that the idea of Algebra started in Babylon, Egypt around 9th Century and is still used today in many different ways.
