For my English portion is i am choosing to do the Narrative essay.
Because it would be a better way to record my progress with my project.
My PBL project is named Double ball bounce effect.
The purpose of the effect is to notice the change in the balls energy when it bounces back up.
The energy of the ball changes from kenetic to heat back to kenetic, because the impact with the ground causes the energy to transfer.
A basket balls average height when it bounces back is barely past the waist of an average person.
On my first day of starting my project i noticed that the experiment works better with a racket ball than a tennis ball. The most common issue i have that is occurring is the temperature it is very cold so it is hard for me to feel the heat energy at the bottom of the ball.
The energy that the ball receives after colliding with the ball converts into heat due to the friction between the ball and the ground.
The best way to perform this project i to tie string around the racket ball, and tape it onto the basket ball and let it drop from the height of my shoulder.
The reason for the string is because the force of the basketball is higher than that of the racket ball, so when it transfers the energy it will double if not triple the energy stored inside the racket and make it bounce higher.Due to the energy of the racket ball yo need to secure it because it can bounce off the basketball and hurt somebody who is not aware of the energy process of the ball.
One day I was playing basketball and I thought to myself what would be a great idea to score double points in a single game. The it occurred to me one ball in the basket counts as two points so two balls equal four. After various minutes of pondering I got the idea to tape to balls together, because their were no rules against that since it was a regular game at the park.
After I finished taping the two balls together i started playing with them it was hard to dribble, because the tape would absorb most of the energy being released. Once I made it into the hoop the ball came crashing down the impact was so great that the ball broke free from the tape holding them together and they went flying all over the place.
It took me a few days to realize what had happened because it was unexpected.
The odds of that happening again seems very impossible to i tried once more to see if i could notice what had happened last time. After i let the ball drop the ball on top bounced even higher than the one below it. At first i was baffled and could not understand why but after minutes of trying and trying, I noticed that the bottom ball does not bounce as high as it usually does and that the top one gains more energy.
At first i thought that maybe it was just more ball more power but in reality it is that simple though that defines what happened. The top ball creates extra energy, because the bottom one is transferring it almost like a domino effect. You move one domino that one knock another down and it goes on and on until the last domino. The ball bounce effect is caused by the balls transferring energy to each other. As one bounces from the ground it gives of the energy to the other one making it double its energy making it able to bounce twice as high.
When I was a child I saw my first ball bounce off the bed. At first I was mesmerized. How could that happen I fall to the ground and I wont bounce. I was really fascinated i can still see the image in my head till this day. A bright red rubber ball falling down crashing into the ground, reaching back up to me. Just that vision alone astonished me enough to want to research what had happened. Of course a couple of years had gone by because I didn't not understand the physics or the effect that undergo inside the ball. After I had come to age and my mind could finally comprehend what had happened.
After I had the ability to test what had happened i realized that the discovery of rubber and elastic. They have helped modernize, evolve, and shape our modern society. They created simple things like rubber erasers to correct our mistakes on our papers, or something more commonly used the rubbery plastic covers on wires. My favorite invention so far since the discovery of rubber is the the rubber pads on the joys sticks to my game controller they provide comfort, painless motion, and grip.
