Solar Bag

INTRODUCTION:

A solar bag is a black bag made out of a very thin plastic material that is uses solar energy to float.

MATERIALS:

    1. Solar Bag

    2. String (optional)

PROCEDURE:

    • Before starting the project, make sure you are in a wide open space, free from trees and power lines. Also, for the bag to float, it has to be a cool and sunny day without wind.

    • The solar bag is made from a very thin material, so handle it with care to prevent punctured holes.

    • Its best recommended to work with a partner or two on this project so the bag may not be so overwhelming.

    1. Unroll the bag and lay it flat on the ground

SAFETY REGULATIONS:

    • Be careful when touching the bag because it gets hot while it's heating in the sun.

    • Always hold one side of the bag so it will not float away.

    1. Tie one end of the bag

    1. Inflate the bag from the other open space

    1. Tie the other end of the bag or/and tether it with a string (optional)

    2. Lay it on the ground holding both ends of the bag and wait for 10-15 minutes so the inside of the bag can heat up

    1. Still holding on to one side of the bag, let go of the bag and the solar bag should float in the air!

SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLE:

As the sun warms the air molecules in the bag, their movement begin to speed up. Sine the heated air inside the bag is less dense than the cooler air outside the bag, then the solar bag will float.
