As the vapor from the boiling water put the air, and when you quickly dip it in the ice cold water it would a have
partial vacuum that would crash the can.
Materials:
hot plate (or electric kitchen stove)
aluminum soda can
ice cold water
measuring cup
beaker tongs (or kitchen tongs)
Procedure:
Instruction
Heat up the burner
Fill the can with water, about 1/4 of a cup
Put the can top of the burner
Wait until the water in the can starts to steam, and make it steam for a while.
Ready the ice cold water
And slowly take the can from the bottom, and quickly flip it over on the ice cold water.
Scientific Principle:
The science behind it is the Charles’ Law ( volume law, gas law) is where gas would expand, once it is heated for a while.
