Bio: Howard Smith was educated at Ballymena Academy, University of Glasgow and Balliol College, Oxford. He was a post-doctoral research fellow and then an associate professor in economics at Oxford. He has served in various roles as an academic advisor to the Competition Commission and later the Competition and Markets Authority. His research is in empirical Industrial Organization, focusing on competition and regulation in industries such as supermarkets, food, construction and auditing.Â
