Horse Training

Even the greenest horse has something to teach the greatest rider!

Horse training can be fun, but it also can be quite a challenge. We have seen numerous people purchase horses that require various amounts of training that are simply beyond the skills of their new owners. We have trained a number of our personal horses and the horses of others- from the weanling age to green horses that benefit from increased experiences - into horses that can trail ride, event, fox hunt and do pretty much anything.

Part of our philosophy is training takes time. It goes far beyond what many people imagine. Training a horse to be happy in its work takes thought and understanding on the part of the trainer- and recognizing that every horse is different. Different in personality, how they learn and what their past experiences are. Another component of our horse training philosophy is to treat the horses as our partners so they further develop trust, and teach them well so they can have many years of being cared for and enjoyed by their human partners.

As such, we offer a variety of personalized packages for training that includes board and care. Although we can certainly understand training facilities that exclude owners in primary training for a number of reasons, we believe that the owners should be part of this journey when possible even if it is as simple as coming out to say 'hello' to your horse to riding with a horse in training on a suitable mount.

When working with horses, it is important to have patience. Training is not a rapid process, although it certainly can be rushed, often to the detriment of the horse and the long term outcome.
