Additional Info

    1. CHILDREN NEED a backpack/bag weekly to carry text books, folder and a pencil. (Gr Pre-6).
    2. Preschool /Kindergarten on Sunday do not have books; they bring home a weekly flyer). Please check your child’s folder weekly for any notes/flyers. Journals and Bibles will be provided for Gr. 7-12 RE students.
    3. OUTREACH DONATIONS FOR THE BASKET TREE THIS YEAR: (basket tree is located in the entrance section of the RE Center…thanks!) We will keep a list on that Basket Tree during the year with the changing needs of our Parish Pantry. We have seasonal donation baskets during the year as well. Helping your child get into the habit of bringing something weekly is a terrific way to build social awareness and the spirit of compassion to the poor. Our Outreach Office is used more and more in these hard economic times. If in doubt, the following are always appreciated and needed:

PEANUT BUTTER, CEREAL, BOXED MILK, CANNED FRUIT, SOUP

    1. PICKING UP YOUR CHILDREN AT END OF CLASS:

All children Grade 3 and younger must be picked up AT THE CLASSROOM when class is over. It is our request, in fact, that all children on Sunday through Tuesday be met in the Center by an adult when class is over. This provides the safest exit to the parking lot. IF YOU GIVE PERMISSION FOR SOMEONE ELSE OTHER THAN A PARENT TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD, please inform the office and your child’s catechist with a note. If this will be a regular thing, please speak personally to the catechist about this. Reminder to all drivers: The lane in front of RE Center is for Drop Off only before class, no car may park or wait there before, during or after class.

    1. IF YOUR CHILD NEEDS TO MISS A CLASS: (Grades 1-6):

It is the parents’ responsibility to see that the child completes the missed chapter and classwork at home before returning to class. A class calendar of lessons will be given to you at the Social and will be available on the RE Website. Please refer to it. If your child misses more than 5 classes (20%) you will be asked to make an appointment to meet with Mare Draper for recommended grade completion options.

    1. IF YOU NEED TO EXCUSE YOUR CHILD FROM CLASS EARLY: Please send a note with your child to give to our office staff. The adult named in the note must report to the office when you arrive. An office assistant will get your child from class. You then sign out in the office. This is a safety measure. .
    2. IF YOU VOLUNTEERED FOR HALL MONITOR: watch for letter in the mail. Schedule does not begin until the second week of class. Please report to the office by 6:10pm for last minute details and name badge!
    3. GOING TO MASS, READING THE PARISH BULLETIN, Email/MAIL COMMUNICATIONS AND WEBSITE: Taking children to Mass with you each week and participating in the life of Holy Family Parish is the foundation of all we do. We use the parish bulletin and RE website (www.holyfamilynewark.org/rechildren) as our tool of communication on a regular basis. For the most complete knowledge and reminders of our activities, promptly read mail or email communications as well as reading our columns in the parish bulletin each week. (Please do not use the small parish calendar as a point of reference for dates and information. This calendar is not always updated and changes may have occurred after a program has started.) You can also check out our website at: www.holyfamilynewark.org. We have a webpage for both Religious Education and Youth Ministry. There, up-to-the-minute program information, activities, registrations and even payment can be made for all of our programs – including donations! We are striving to become more tech savvy – it’s slow but we are getting there!
    1. SACRAMENT PROGRAM REGISTRATION (for First Communion and First Reconciliation) will be sent in the mail/email. For your calendar, the required First Reconciliation Parent meeting is being held on October 5th and 6th.
    2. Confirmation prep begins in January, Grade. 9 and takes place in Fall of Grade 10. Sacrament programs are separate from and in addition to religious education classes. Diocese requires that child be in RE classes at least the year before sacrament prep and the year of sacrament prep.
