My father, Charles (Charlie) Daffern passed away Monday, February 9th. He was just short of his 99th birthday. He and Ruth began cottaging on Head Lake (Sunset Beach) back in the 1940s, and tenting on Hilton's Point in 1964, then building our Panabode cottage in 1970. He was president of the HPCA back in the 1970s, I think, sharing the executive with Ed Hanley and Ted Suddard, and he was a founding member of the Dump the Laxton Dump group that successfully lobbied against the landfill proposed for just south of Head Lake. He leaves a wonderful legacy. A celebration of his life will happen at the cottage this summer.
