Although the ban is lifted, the Burn Hazard Index remains at HIGH. Large amounts of storm debris from the April ice storm and only localized precipitation continue to create elevated fire risks. Residents are urged to use caution and follow all open-air burning and fireworks regulations.
“Lifting the ban does not mean the risk has passed,” said Fire Chief Terry Jones. “There’s still plenty of dry, combustible material on the ground from spring storm damage, and rainfall has been uneven across our communities. If you choose to burn or use fireworks, do so responsibly—keep it small, keep water close by, and never leave a fire unattended. If it’s too windy, don’t burn.”

National Defence To Hold Public Engagement Sessions In Kawartha Lakes - Sept 9, 2025

KAWARTHA LAKES-The Department of National Defence (DND) will host public engagement sessions to answer questions and provide details about the upcoming construction of the Arctic Over-The-Horizon (A-OTHR) Transmit Site at 0 Thistle Trail, Kawartha Lakes. Community members from Kawartha Lakes and surrounding areas are invited to attend. DND experts will be available to discuss the project. Sessions are expected to last two hours, depending on attendance, and will include a presentation on the project followed by a question-and-answer session.
When: September 9, 2025, 2:00 pm EDT and 7:00 pm EDT
Where: Coboconk Community Centre, 9 Grandy Rd., Coboconk, ON
This venue is wheelchair accessible. On-site and street parking are available.
