"In 2017 the Practical test was changed and could be a bit strange to parents and people who passed before this date.
Gone is the turn in the road (3 point turn). Gone left and right reverse around a corner.
New. Mainly based on reversing exercises. Reverse park /on the road or in a car park. "Parallel parking /bay parking" Parking on the right, following directions on a Sat Nav, and of course a controlled stop(emergency Stop.!!)
You have to pass a theory test and learn a number of general safety questions before you attempt your practical.

You will be using the Driving School car you have become familiar with for the test. The Examiner doesn’t have a car to take the test in like some people mistakingly Think.

A new learner.
From scratch, a new learner with no experience should take about 40/45 hrs training to get to test standard. Depending on the pupil, as everyone is different.
We only do 2 Hour lessons. (You Can't learn enough in An Hour and it will take you much longer.)
To pass the test you have to show the examiner that you can drive independently and safely.
You will need the right attitude, show good Awareness, Observation, planning, and control skills
Put this all together and you will pass the test.

The practical driving test.
YOUR TEST WILL LAST ABOUT 40 MINUTES
AND YOU CAN TAKE YOUR INSTRUCTOR WITH YOU IF YOU WANT.
(Your instructor can sit in on your test. But plays no part in the test."You will be asked when you meet the Examiner if you would like your instructor to accompany you on the test, and if you would like him to be at the briefing when you get back" Also, you could have the Senior Examiner in the back as well. He will be making sure the test is done properly. Your Examiner will inform you of this at the beginning of the test )

YOU WILL DRIVE IN VARIOUS ROAD AND TRAFFIC CONDITIONS
YOU WILL BE ASKED TO DRIVE INDEPENDENTLY FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES
FOLLOWING THE EXAMINERS SAT NAV (4 out of 5 tests) OR A SERIES OF TRAFFIC SIGNS.
ON TEST DONT WORRY IF YOU GO THE WRONG WAY, OR MAKE A MISTAKE. AS LONG AS YOU DO IT SAFELY "That's what matters"

YOU WILL BE ASKED ANOTHER SAFETY QUESTION WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING

YOU WILL HAVE TO DO ONE REVERSING MANEUVER, AND SEVERAL CONTROLED STOPS, (TO SEE IF YOU CAN DO IT SAFELY.) The test can also include AN EMERGENCY STOP.
