Preparing Your Quilt

Preparing Quilt Top For Longarm Quilting

1. First backing and batting should be at least 8" wider and 8" longer than the quilt top.

For example, Top: 100” x 80" Back & Batting: 108” x 88”

2. If your quits are directional please place a pin on the top edges of both quilt top and backing to ensure the correct orientation and layout.

3. Top and back should be well pressed with all seams flat.

4. Make sure quilt top and back are as square as possible on all corners to avoid possible puckering and pleating. Double check it by folding the top into a quarter.

5. Trim loose threads to avoid threads showing through the top.

6. If you have flanges, prairie points or other dimensional elements on your quilt top make sure they are basted down to prevent catching the foot of longarm machine.
