Welcome to Hety's page
My first book manuscript, based on my PhD dissertation examining Cantopop in post-1997 Hong Kong in relation to media and technology, the practice of listening, placemaking, and identity construction, has been contracted with Bloomsbury Academic.
My name is Hety Hei Ting Wong. I am a PhD graduate of the Cultural Studies in Asia Programme at the National University of Singapore (NUS). I am now an Honorary Research Associate in the Department of Educational Psychology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, conducting research on public education about neurodivergence and disability in the performing arts in Singapore.
I seek an understanding of patterned sound, including music and machine sound, in various cultures. My research connects sound with technological advancements, media, space, and examines humans' activities with sound in culture, identity, and community construction.
My second book project studies the production and perception of (digital) realness/authenticity in the late celebrities' performances, in the formats of holograms (image re-production) and sound re-production, with/without AI technology. See my recent presentation on the preliminary findings from the pilot study of this project.
My undergraduate training across humanities, sciences, and social sciences equips me as an interdisciplinary qualitative researcher.
