2024 HLGL BY-LAWS
Statement of Purpose: The purpose of the HLGL is to provide and encourage play of golf at the Herndon Centennial Golf Course by providing starting times, arranging tournaments using established USGA Rules, and encouraging enjoyment of competition and social golf.
Membership: Membership in the HLGL is open to all golfers who pay the appropriate dues. Dues are payable by, or on, the first day of open season. It is the responsibility of each member to pay her dues at this time. Any new member joining after August 1st shall do so at a reduced rate.
Board of Directors and Elections: The Board of Directors consists of the President, First Vice President/Tournaments (i.e. weekly games, major tournaments), Second Vice President/Pairings, Secretary and Treasurer. The President shall appoint any other Chairpersons deemed necessary for the year. Members of the Board are elected each year at the Annual Membership Meeting held the first Wednesday in November. Telephone numbers and email addresses will be listed in the HLGL roster sent to members and also will be available at the Pro Shop. Officers shall be elected by a majority of votes cast by members in attendance at the Annual Membership Meeting or anonymous absentee ballots submitted to a designated Nominating Committee Chairperson prior to the Annual Membership Meeting. The list of nominees and absentee ballots will be provided to each member on the current HLGL membership roster at least ten days prior to the Annual Membership Meeting. The Nominating Committee Chairperson will begin soliciting nominations no later than September 1. Nominations will close by October 1 for each office so that there is time to send out the ballots prior to the Annual Membership Meeting.
Board of Directors Meeting: Meetings of the Board of Directors are arranged by the President. Generally, several meetings are held during the winter to prepare for the new season.
Funds: Funds are disbursed only to accomplish the purpose of the League. The major costs include tournaments and prizes. Funds are not used for activities that benefit only a select group of members. Prizes will be disbursed based on the number of players.
Changing Current By-Laws: Current By-Laws may be amended or added by a vote of the majority of the current membership roster, provided the amendment or addition has been presented to the current membership at least ten days prior to the vote.
