A man was fatally stabbed “multiple times in the neck and back” on Church Street Marketplace on Wednesday afternoon.
Burlington police identified the victim as Richard Medina, 43, and the suspect as Louis Fortier, 36. Medina was pronounced dead at the hospital. Fortier was taken into custody following the incident, said Burlington police Deputy Chief Shawn Burke.
The attack happened shortly before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Church and Cherry streets near the Dear Lucy shoe store and the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop. Webcam video streamed online by the Church Street Marketplace showed Burlington police handcuffing a person who appears to be a white man wearing a white sweatshirt. The video is time-stamped 1:57 p.m. Traces of blood are first seen on the video next to Dear Lucy around 1:49 p.m. Police said Fortier surrendered to officers at the scene.
Medina was pronounced dead at the University of Vermont Medical Center at about 2:20 p.m, Burlington police said in a statement Wednesday evening.

The area around Mayfair Trailer Park has proven to be a nuisance for the APD’s robbery/homicide unit. In January, Anthony Williams was shot following a dispute on the 200 block of Cone Street. Police say the suspect, 62-year-old Eddie Banks, fired a weapon at least three times at Williams, he was struck at least once but survived his injuries.

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Two men accused of murdering Terry Mack Thursday night in east Albany are behind bars. And the brother of one of those men is speaking out, saying they’ve got the wrong guy.
Brian Woods says his brother Michael, reported Thursday’s deadly shooting in east Albany and was not the trigger man. Around 5 a.m. Saturday, 39-year-old Michael and 32-year-old Ronnie Holmes were arrested and charged with the murder of 44-year-old Terry Mack. Albany Police say Mack was shot in the back of the head as he sat in a Chevrolet Blazer on the 200 block of Cone Street.
Brian Woods says Michael and Terry were best friends. Just before the shooting, he says Terry was sitting in the car. His brother, Michael was on the porch of his house.
“My brother looked up and saw the guy and continued doing what he was doing because it’s typical for people to walk through the yard. He’s doing something, he look up and goes back to doing what he doing. He heard the gun shot, he look up and he didn’t see nobody,” said Brian Woods.
Brian feels his brother has done nothing wrong and wants someone on Cone Street to speak up.
“My brother reported it. Now he’s up in Blaylock looking at murder for helping his friend,” said Brian Woods.
Albany police say they gathered information through interviews, which led to the arrests.
Woods wants justice for both families involved and sends a message to the Mack family.
“I know you want some answers. I want some answers too. We trying to find out what’s going on. We didn’t know, just like ya’ll didn’t know,” said Brian Woods.
Michael Woods was also charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault. Both men remain behind bars at the Dougherty County Jail.

He was trying to park his boss’s pickup truck in a private lot off Rhode Island Avenue and Second Street, near his home in Northeast Washington.
But Desmond Joseph, 41, was in a work zone and apparently had trouble reaching the space he needed. Witnesses told police that he got out of the truck and started tossing aside orange traffic cones blocking the way. It was Thursday about 3:40 p.m.
A construction worker confronted Joseph and an argument turned into a single punch to the head, D.C. police said. Knocked unconscious, Joseph was put on life support.
Joseph, who emigrated from St. Lucia and was an avid gardener who helped his neighbors perfect their plots, died the next day at a hospital. His death has been ruled a homicide.
“It’s a horrific incident,” said the man’s wife, Lisa C. Joseph, 48. “It didn’t have to happen.”
