The current version of the rumor mill was started under new management for the 2013-2014 cycle. Information from previous years was copied to this site to preserve the historical record, and is mostly static, though corrections are welcome.
Historically this site was limited to tracking US jobs. Non-US jobs have been tracked for the past few years with some success, and these posts will continue for the foreseeable future.
The posting policy is relatively straightforward, and hopefully intuitive. The default action is to post any rumor submitted via form or email. Examples of reasons why a rumor would not be posted are:
The rumor is known to be incorrect via other rumors/corrections/etc submitted to the rumor mill.
The person the rumor references specifically requests that their name be removed from the site (or from a specific posting).
The table is usually updated within a day or two of rumors being submitted, sometimes more quickly. Please be patient if you don't see your rumor posted immediately. It could be that the rumor mill is on vacation, or that the rumor falls into one of the categories listed above.
We always welcome corrections. When submitting one, please be as specific as possible.
Since some people have complained that some jobs are posted only after the application deadlines have passed: please note that this is not a job board. Management does not scan job postings regularly, and most jobs that are posted come from the comments form or by email.
Some additional information is added to each job on the relevant sub-field within hepex. In an attempt to be fair to the institutions posting ads, any classification is based only on the language in the ad. If a rumor is submitted indicating that the job is meant for someone in a particular subfield, then this will be indicated with an underlined letter, e.g. "CDNO" means the ad was ambiguous, but that people believe it's going to a neutrino person.
