Boys 4th, Girls 5th at Metro East Conference

The boys and girls track teams improved on their 2016 performances, placing 4th and 5th respectively at the Metro East Conference Meet on May 23 and 25. The boys improved their team score by 27.5 points with 97.5 points, while the girls moved up from 8th to 5th, scoring 71 team points.

The boys were led by many outstanding individual and relay performances. Junior Myles Fleming started off strong on day one, winning the 3200m with a time of 9:38.44. Senior Jack Korte had a big Thursday, winning the 1600m with a time of 4:28.60 and was followed by Fleming, who placed 2nd. An hour later, Korte was able to earn a second place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:59.63. Senior Joe Dill was close behind in third. Dill also helped two relays to All Conference finishes, including the boys 4x800 team of Senior Gabe Segura, Sophomore Brad Alton, and Junior Jimmy Elander, and the 4x400 team of Junior Bailey Volkmann, Sophomore Grady Clem, and Senior Sakai Kelly. Kelly had a big personal record and 2nd place finish in the 400m, with a time of 50.57. Rounding out the team's honorable mentions were the 4x100 and 4x200 teams of Sophmore Zak Olafson, Senior Lukas Bergstrom, and Juniors Bailey Volkmann and Tate Schilling, placing 3rd in the 4x200 and 4th in the 4x100. Senior Ben Kemp led the way in the field events, placing 3rd overall in the Discus. Junior Joe Kammeyer finished 5th in the Shot Put.

The girls made a big leap into 5th place. They were led by Sophomore Rose Dill, who brought home a 1st place finish in the 3200, followed by teammate Junior Caroline Johnson who was 2nd. Senior Lizzie Whitcomb ran to a 2nd place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:24.27. Dill and Whitcomb along with 7th grader Jaylen Rosga and Senior Jamie Herridge took 1st in the 4x800. Rosga also ran a personal best time of 2:27.79 in the open 800 to finish 3rd. 8th Grader Caroline Anderson jumped her way to a personal best 4'10 in the high jump, which was good enough for 2nd place. Also in the jumps, Freshman Clara Dupont jumped a big personal best in the triple jump (33'1.5) to move up to a 3rd place finish.
