2018 Metro Conference Meet Recap

The 2018 Metro East Conference Meet wrapped up with the boys team in fourth place, with a total of 77 points, and girls team in 7th place with 67 points.

The boys team started off their scoring on Tuesday, led by some of their seniors. Myles Fleming picked up a big win in 3200m, running alone for most of the race and setting a conference record time of 9:26. Fleming also added a big victory in the 1600 on Thursday with a time of 4:23. The Warriors were busy in the Shot Put, with seniors Joe Kammeyer placing 3rd and Mike Villareal placing 5th. Villareal improved on his season-best with each of his six throws. On Thursday, the boys notched a few more victories, first in the High Jump led by junior Grady Clem's jump of 6'2. Clem was also a part of the conference winning 4x200, along with seniors Tate Schilling and Bailey Volkmann and freshman Brandon Morris. Morris also placed 3rd individually in the 400. The boys 4x800 team of seniors Jimmy Elander and Ian Stawarz, 8th grader Carl Strohoffer, and junior Brad Alton ran to an All-Conference finish with a time 8:45. The Warriors wrapped up the meet on Friday, with a rain-delayed 4x400 at Tartan that placed 2nd overall with a time of 3:29, a big drop from their previous season-best time of 3:36.

The girls were led by sophomore Clara Dupont, who nearly broke the school record in her winning attempt of 34'9 in the triple jump. The Warriors were also led by sophomore Amanda Tuvey, who raced to 3rd place finishes in both the 1600m and 3200m. Freshman Annika Overvig made finals in all of her events and capped off her successful week with a 3rd place finish in the 300m Hurdles. Junior Olivia Segura raced to a 3rd place finish in the 800m. The girls 4x800 team of Segura, senior Caroline Johnson, freshman Francisca Franco-Omana, and 8th grader Clare Fleming ran to a 4th place finish. Also finishing in fourth place was the 4x400 team of Segura, seniors Ana Lopez and Arcelia Sanchez, and junior Leila Rajput running a gutsy race and a season-best time of 4:21.
