What the Blue Screen of Death Is

The blue screen of death is a reference to when a computer flashes a blue screen and then shuts downs without warning It has become a growing problem with Windows based systems over the past few years as the causes of the blue screen shutdown, or blue screen of death has multiplied thanks to the growing complexity of the computers we use and the demands we place on the them The term Blue Screen of Death refers to the blue screen that flashes just before your computer dies and reboots itself In most cases, absolutely no warning is given, and any unsaved information you are working on is lost - which of course can be extremely frustrating to the user The Blue Screen of Death is also known as a BSOD, a stop error, a blue screen, or Blue Screen of Doom

What Causes the Blue Screen of Death Problem

The Blue Screen of Death is caused when Windows encounters a critical system error and shuts itself down to prevent damage to your computer So actually, although incredibly frustrating, is really a good thing which prevents your computer from being damaged beyond repair In most cases, the problems are the result of something called a Kernel error, which essentially is a small program in your system that runs or drives your hardware ( such as your printer or your monitor ) These are often referred to as Drivers' When a blue screen happens, it is the because somewhere in your computer, something has performed an illegal operation In technical terms, it is called a Stop Error, and the blue screen is the DOS ( disk operating system ) that runs behind the scenes on your computer. Think of it as the Windows program being the clothes, which are stripped away to see what is underneath just before the lights go out. The other potential cause of a Blue Screen problem is a fault with specific hardware such as a power supply malfunctioning, a component over heating or a conflicting interaction between a slave drive and your primary hard drive.

How to Trouble Shoot and Eliminate Blue Screen Crashes.

The first step is to determine whether your computer is getting a blue screen because of an internal program problem or a hardware malfunction. 80% of the time, blue screens are caused by internal issues, but to make sure we are headed in the right direction, lets eliminate the chance that it's a hardware problem. The most common symptoms or signs of a hardware issue is a pattern of consistent behaviour leading up to the blue screen crash. In the case of an overheating problem, you likely would notice that your fan in your computer was running more often - or not at all. This would likely also come with an increasingly repetitive crash cycle. For example, your system shuts down 10 minutes after you turn it on regardless of what you are doing. Also, if you have recently installed something new on your system like more memory or a new hard drive / web cam or other actual physical device, try taking it out and see if that fixes the problem. Blue screen of death should not worry you to much as I have found in past it can be fixed quiet easy without expensive repairs
