BE READY TO SHARE: Your Communication Project idea.
Be sure your project has a product or process that you can share with me. Some ideas include, but are not limited to: a website, a Youtube Channel, a scholarship speech video recording, a podcast, speech competition, debate competition, skit, club recruiting video, game or other digital communication forum. Your project must include some kind of observable speaking. performing, debating, interacting, teaching, communicating that can be shared digitally with a link. Your topic can be anything that interests you - a hobby, sport, club, team, political issue, game, skill, social event, or any school appropriate topic. You may work alone or with a small group, but the larger the group, the more significant the project must be so that each member of the group has a role.
Finish your 200 Articles by April 22. They will be a grade.

February 27-28

1. Read your oratory to a friend or aloud to yourself and time it. You should have enough content for 5+ minutes (max of 10) of speech. Add more content if needed. Your outline should generally follow the Intro, 3 evidence-based points, conclusion format. If you need help with Oratory - visit here.

February 3

1. Complete your investigation of Democratic candidates for president for our Iowa Caucus on Wednesday.

2. File news articles until you reach approximately 75 this week.

3. Work on your oratory rough draft, be sure you are starting to gather sources and refine your topic. Consider your options for an AGD.

January 24

1. Complete the Reflection Journal on Extemporaneous Speaking - the sub will pass these out to you. Turn it into the blue basket on my desk before you leave today.

2. Watch the 2017 National Champion in Original Oratory and analyze his performance to gain insight into your upcoming Oratory project. Complete this by the end of your class period.

3. Continue filing. Check your source here. You can also file from any file with no name assigned. Your goal for this week should be approximately 25. Your goal for next week should be approximately 50 articles. Be sure these are all sources on our list and from 2020 dates.

January 13

Current Events Competition

All assignments listed below are due by the end of the period on January 10.

January 9

1. Finish the Welcome Survey if you have not.

2. Complete the Media Source Bias activity. You may use the internet and chat with others at your table if you are not sure about an answer.

3. Check your extemp source. (If you don't have one, choose one that no one has signed up for and use that for now.) Go to your source's website using Google Chrome and file 5-10 articles that are:

Current - 2020 date
Significant National/Global issue
Not blocked by paywall/video.

4. If you need to add the Prepd orange trophy icon to your chrome browser, click here. To watch a tutorial on using Fast Catch to file, click here. Do not create any new folders - use the existing folders for now.

5. Watch this example of an extemp speech and observe how the speaker integrates sources into his speech.

6. Visit Extemp Central and read through the sample topics there. Submit 5 topics that you would like for me to include in the envelope that you will draw from for your first speech topic.

1. Finish any work from January 9. You should have filed 10 articles by the end of today (Friday.)
