Excerpt from the attached document -
I do “contract EFI work” in the local area. I was replacing a throttle body in a friend’s shop the other day, and one of the techs asked about “that thing that measures how much air is passing through the throttle body". I told him that here was no sensor that measured airflow as such, and that airflow was estimated in all Harley EFI systems. He replied that “he had a friend who was a Harley tech who had told him there was such a sensor”. Not being in a good mood that day, I said that the guy had no idea what he was talking about, to which he responded in an offended manner that “the guy had gone to two schools, and he probably did know what he was talking about”.
I let it go at that, but after I got home, I began to wonder how many “Harley techs” (and their friends) were misinformed about this.
I decided I would write up some kind of high-level burb about what actually goes on there, and give it to him so he would know—and more importantly, so he would not pass that BS on to the customers.
As I tried to make it as simple as I could (and making anything simple is very difficult for me), I decided that if Harley Techs were passing on crap like that, there are probably others out there who think it works that way too, so I decided to put it on this website.
So…here it is.
