5/5/17
Happy Cinco de Mayo! If you turned in the Unit 4 packet, your score is in the gradebook. Please pick up your graded packets. I have decided NOT to collect or grade the Unit 4 packet. So if you are using your packet grade, your gradebook now shows your actual packet grade for the semester. I have changed the gradebook view so it shows everyone's grade as if the packets counted. To see what your real grade is if your online HW replaces the packet grade, see the first link when you log in. It shows how to figure that out, and I provide an example. This is all you need to do: From the current total showing, subtract your Unit packet points and add your online HW points twice. Take that new total and divide by 12. That is your current alternate percent. I grade you on whichever percent is highest: the one showing in your gradebook or the alternate percent.
HW 11 is due tonight. On the last email, I had some section numbers listed incorrectly. The ones below are correct. HW 13 will be available no later than next Friday. I am working on putting in videos in several of the HW problems if you need help while doing the problem, so that is taking awhile.
5/5: Transcribe videos and complete 4.5-4.7 in packet by 5/10. Then open HW 12--due 5/12.
5/12: DUE DATE: HW 12
5/12: Transcribe videos and complete 4.8-4.9 in packet by 5/17. Then open HW 13--due 5/19. Review the definitions and properties (4.10) and do the 4.11 review problems in the packet.
5/19: DUE DATE: HW 13
Do any posted reviews or practice tests posted. The Final exam is cumulative but focuses on Unit 4.
5/19-5/23:Take Final Exam during appt time.
5/12/17
IMPORTANT: The absolute deadline that the APC allows anyone to schedule a Final Exam is Wednesday May 17th at midnight. After that, students will not have access to the online appointment system and will not be able to make an appointment online or in person. Anyone not making an appointment by that deadline will not be able to take the final exam, will earn a zero on the final, and will not pass the class. So if you haven't made your appointment yet, do it immediately! The Final exam is cumulative but focuses on Unit 4. I have cleared all attempts on previous reviews and practice tests, so you can try them again. There is a review and also practice tests posted for Unit 4 material. Practice all problems on previous tests, practice tests, and reviews to be prepared for the final. Practice means pretend you are taking a real test--you should be able to do problems without hints, help, or examples.
Everyone still has the opportunity to pass this class. I replace your lowest (or one missed) test score with grade on the final if your final exam score is higher. Nothing replaces the final exam score. You must take it. Also, anyone earning at least 80% on the final exam will pass the class. So even if you have not passed the tests so far, you can still pass the class. Go for it!
Reminder: HW 12 is due tonight.

5/16/17 Special Opportunity! All HW available to earn full credit!
I just made an exception so that every online math HW assignment from the semester is open and available for you to do. You will see a new due date of Monday, 5/22/17 for all assignments. That is a final deadline for all of them. You may not use any more late passes. There is no penalty for opening any old HW assignment between now and then in case you want to work on any you may not have completed. Go for 100% on all of them! Also, once you have credit on a problem, you can click try new similar problem for practice. You keep credit earned even if you don't get the new similar one correct. So it's great review!

Reminder: The deadline to schedule (or reschedule your date/time) for the Final Exam is today Wednesday May 17th at midnight. Starting at midnight on May 18th, students will not have access to the online appointment system and will not be able to make an appointment online or in person.
If you need to make or change your appointment, you need to contact the APC directly. I have no control or access to the appointment system. If you change your appointment, and it's different from what you entered in HW FE Appt, it's not a problem. You already got credit for that, and I'll see the new date after you take it.

After you take the final exam, you can calculate your exact grade in the class by following the instructions in the first link when you log in to MyOpenMath. It's a simple algebra problem where you plug in numbers for variables, so it's easy to compute. Follow my exact directions for what to plug in for each variable based on your percents showing in MyOpenMath. IF you do better on the final than your lowest test score, or if you have a higher percent on your online HW than your packet grade, you won't see your true final point total in MyOpenMath. I do those special calculations on my own spreadsheet at the end of the week, and will enter your grades in SURF by Monday. Keep in mind that you only replace your lowest test percent with your percent earned on the final if your percent on the final is higher. If your percent on the final is lower than your lowest test score, keep your original test scores. Likewise, if your packet percent is higher than your online HW percent, don't replace that either. It was a pleasure being your instructor this semester! Have a great summer!

I calculated your total points with all adjustments by replacing the lowest test grade with final if that helped your grade, and replaced packet grade with online HW grade it that helped your grade. I entered that total and your grade in the class in MyOpenMath. To see it, go to your gradebook, and scroll to the item that says GRADE--I think it's highlighted in pink. You will see your final total of points in the class out of 1600, which is the same number of points if you followed my directions for figuring out your grade. Click feedback to see your letter grade in the class. The minimum points you must earn for each letter grade is as follows: 1440 for an A, 1280 for a B, 1120 for a C, and 960 for a D. These are the minimum points as I already adjusted points by providing opportunity for everyone to raise their original total in MyOpenMath by allowing the final to replace a low test grade, and the online HW to replace the packet grade. Take Care and enjoy your summer!
