4/17/19 IMPT Info about Forum Posts
When you make a forum post, remember that you need to show the steps, or ask a question, or make a comment. Do not simply write the problem or upload a photo without any message or work shown.
Also, I and/or other students often make a reply to forum posts. Often, important info is in the reply, including any notes about misconceptions, notations, or errors. Make sure you check all replies, especially to your own post. When you click on a forum, you can click List by Name to easily find your post.
Remember the due date to make this week's post is tomorrow. Please make yours today!
4/22/19 IMPT Info
Keep going strong. We are in the final quarter of the semester already. The last date to take Test 3 is this Thursday, 4/25. Doing the Reviews and Practice Tests ahead of time (on your own without looking at notes and videos) will help prepare you. If you need help, please ask! Ask in the forum, set up an appointment with me, see me in office hours, get help in the MLC, make a tutoring appointment, or let me know if you want to set up a ZOOM meeting, etc.
After you take Test 3, Watch/Transcribe videos for 4.1-4.4 in your video notebook, and complete those sections in Unit 4. Complete Graded Forum 11 and Quiz 11 by the due date next Thursday. Below is the schedule for the last few weeks of the semester.
If you haven't scheduled an appointment to take the final exam during the test dates of 5/16-5/22, do that before the end of April before your preferred day/date/time slot fills up. CLICK HERE to schedule an APPT.
Week 14 (starting 4/29): Watch/Transcribe videos for 4.5-4.7 in your video notebook, and complete those sections in Unit 4. Complete Graded Forum 12 and Quiz 12 by due date.
Week 15 (starting 5/6):If not already done, click here to schedule an appointment through the APC website to take the final exam during test window dates (see below). Watch/Transcribe videos for 4.8-4.9 in your video notebook, and complete all of Unit 4. Complete Graded Forum 13 and Quiz 13 by due date.
Week 16 (starting 5/13): STUDY FOR FINAL EXAM! Take FINAL EXAM at your scheduled place/date/time during Final Exam Window Dates, 5/16-5/22.
Note: This Thursday, 4/25, is the final date to withdraw from any full length semester classes on SURF to earn a W and not a letter grade on your transcript. You can check your grade in MyOpenMath to see where you stand. Past Due includes your grade before Test 3. Look at Past Due and Attempted after taking Test 3 to see where you stand. After Friday at midnight, your grade after taking Test 3 will be included under Past Due. I do replace your lowest test grade with the the grade on the final if you do better on the final. Also, anyone earning a B on the final will pass this class with at least a C in the course. So, yes, everyone in the class can still pass the class. But if you are far behind, and haven't done well on tests, and do not have a LOT of time to focus on this class and catch up, consider your options and be realistic about what you can accomplish. I hope everyone does well!!! I'm rooting for you.
4/25/19 IMPT Info
Reminder. Today, 4/25, is the last date to take Test 3, and also the last date to withdraw from class. I want to remind everyone that if the score on your final exam is higher than the score on your lowest test score that I replace that lower test score with the final exam score.
Also, anyone who earns 80% or higher on the final exam will pass this class with at least a C even if their overall percent is lower than 70%. Anyone earning 90% or higher on the final exam will pass this class with at least a B even if their overall percent in the class is lower than 80%. So, YES, everyone has the opportunity to pass with a B or C. It's not easy to do unless the material is very well understood, but you can always go for it!
If you haven't started watching/transcribing videos for 4.1-4.4, get started on that today or tomorrow and complete those sections in Unit 4. Graded Forum 11 and Quiz 11 is due next Thursday.
--> If you haven't scheduled an appointment to take the final exam during the test dates of 5/16-5/22, do that before the end of April before your preferred day/date/time slot fills up. CLICK HERE to schedule an APPT.
4/28/19 NEW IMPT Info
We are almost at the end of the semester! Keep going strong and don't give up! We have 3 weeks left and then the final exam. Pay close attention to very important, new information below. You may go back and earn more points on quizzes from the beginning of the semester, and there is a revised grading scale.
I hope you are all working on 4.1-4.4 in Packet 4. Remember that Graded Forum 11 and Quiz 11 is due Thursday.
So that everyone has the opportunity to earn at least 70% on each Quiz, all of them are now available to work on for more credit. So if there are any that you did not complete, you may use as many late passes as you need to open it and work on it. If you opened one in review mode, and need me to clear it so you can use a late pass, let me know. The deadline to submit any problem on any quiz for the semester is Tuesday, 5/21/19. You have plenty of late passes and will not run out of them. If you do, contact me. Do all you can to earn the highest percent possible on the Quizzes and Required Forums, and together that counts the same as one test.
I am revising the grading scale as follows. Points are out of 1000 points in the class.
A: At least 850 points (85%) or at least 90% on final exam
B: At least 750 points (75%) or at least 80% on final exam
C: At least 600 points (60%) or at least 65% on final exam
D: At least 500 points
Everyone has the opportunity to pass this class. Go for it! Ask for help if you need it. You have many resources available to you...ask questions in the forums, see me in office hours, set up other meetings in person or through Zoom meetings, get help in the MLC, schedule tutoring appointments, watch videos, etc. Do whatever you can to have a successful end of the semester!
