4/2/18
This is a reminder of what you should be doing to learn, review, and retain the material for this class. Always watch/transcribe the assigned videos before doing the packet pages. After you transcribe the videos, you should try each problem on the videos on your own on a separate piece of paper, without looking at your notes, possibly several times, to make sure you fully understand the examples and can do them on your own. Consider putting each problem on an index card with the solution on the back to quiz yourself often. Then do the problems in the packet. Again, consider doing these on index cards and practicing them more than once. After mastering the problems on the videos and in the packet (which should be a few days before the quiz is due), open and do the online Quiz, completing it on time so you don't fall behind. Constant review of problems on videos and in the packet by doing them all on your own without looking will help you retain the material. Reminders for this week: Q9 is 4/11/18. Make sure you open the document titled Easy Way to Graph Parabolas as this will help you a lot.
Test 3 dates are 4/19-4/26. If you haven't scheduled an appointment to take it with the APC, do it ASAP. Click here to schedule a test. Do all the reviews and the Practice Test to prepare yourself for the test. Make sure you transcribe and then try on your own all the problems on the posted videos. Also, keep up with the Packet problems. The more problems you practice (especially more than once), the more likely you will understand the material and do well on Test 3. I WANT YOU TO SUCCEED. If you put in the time necessary, you'll have a better chance of success.
If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Use the correct forum in MyOpenMath so everyone benefits from seeing the question and response. It's best if you are specific about your question...what you've tried, upload your steps and work, etc. I am here to support you! Just ask. I'm also always available in person during my office hours T/Th from 1-2 in 3622. Drop by any time. Also, consider working in the MLC in the library where you can receive on-the-spot tutoring if you have a quick question, or make a 50 minute appointment with the Tutoring Center. They have online tutoring appointments as well as in-person ones. Click here for more info regarding tutoring.

Solutions to More Review Problems for Test 3
4/22/18
Reminder: 4/26 is the deadline to take Test 3. 4/26 is also the deadline to drop this or any other class in SURF. After you take Test 3, begin working on Q11. There are 3 more quizzes for this semester, and then the final exam. I suggest you schedule your appointment to take the final exam now, as appointment slots are already filling up. Click here to schedule a test. The final exam is cumulative covering the material over the entire semester. Begin reviewing for it now. Consider redoing/reviewing problems from videos, previous packets, quizzes, and tests. Below is the schedule for the rest of the semester.
5/2: Q11 due. Transcribe videos for 4.5-4.7, complete those sections in packet. Q12 due 5/9.
5/9: Q12 due. Transcribe videos for 4.8-4.9, finish packet. Q13 due 5/16.
5/16: Q13 due.
May 16-22:Take Final Exam in APC. Appointment required.
4/29/18
Test 3 is in Review Mode. Look over your test and make sure you practice any problems you missed. Let me know if you have questions. If you haven't already done so, click here to schedule your appointment to take the final exam May 16-22. The final is cumulative covering the material over the entire semester. Begin reviewing for it now by doing the reviews and practice tests I've posted over the semester. The key to doing well on tests is to constantly review and practice problems as if you were taking a real test. Sit for 1-2 hours and do problems all on your own. EVERYONE still has an opportunity to pass this class as anyone earning 80% or higher on the final will pass with at least a grade of C even if the total percent for the semester is below 70%. So if you have not been doing well, you still have a path toward passing! Go for it! Also, I replace your lowest test score with the grade on the final if the grade on the final is higher. Nothing replaces the final exam grade. You must take the final.
NOTE: Q11 is due 5/2, Q12 is due 5/9, Q13 is due 5/16, and dates to take the final are May 16-22.
