5/5/18
Hope you are all having a great weekend. Test 3 is now in Review Mode. Look over your test and make sure you understand and practice any problems you missed. Let me know if you have questions. If you haven't already done so, click here to schedule your appointment to take the final exam May 16-22. The final is cumulative covering the material over the entire semester. Begin reviewing for it now by doing the reviews and practice tests I've posted over the semester. The key to doing well on tests is to constantly review and practice problems as if you were taking a real test. Sit for 1-2 hours and do problems all on your own. EVERYONE still has an opportunity to pass this class as:
Anyone earning *75% or higher on the final will pass with at least a grade of C even if the total percent for the semester is below 70%.
Anyone earning 85% or higher on the final will pass with at least a grade of B even if the total percent for the semester is below 80%.
Anyone earning 95% or higher on the final will pass with at least a grade of A even if the total percent for the semester is below 90%.
So everyone has a path toward passing with an A, B, or C, regardless of your grade so far! Go for it! Also, I replace your lowest test score with the grade on the final if the grade on the final is higher. Nothing replaces the final exam grade. You must take the final.
*Last week's email stated you needed 80%, but I lowered it to only needing 75% on the final.
Quiz Due Dates coming up: Q24 is due 5/7. Q25 is due 5/10, and Q26 is due 5/14.
5/7/18
As you work through solving rational equations for Q24, remember that you can never divide by zero, and also cannot have zero in the denominator. That makes an expression undefined. So always check that whatever solution you get does NOT make a denominator of the original equation zero. I just made a video that's related to this idea where I prove 2=1. See if you can find the mistake by clicking here.

Everyone should be studying for the final. If you haven't already done so, you need to immediately click here to schedule your appointment to take the final exam May 16-22. The final is cumulative covering the material over the entire semester. I posted a Review and Practice Test for the final. The review is like the quizzes, where you can watch videos, try new problems, etc. The Practice Test is like the real final, but has more problems. The final has about 25 problems. Make sure to take the Practice Test before taking the real final. EVERYONE still has an opportunity to pass this class as:
Anyone earning 75% or higher on the final will pass with at least a grade of C even if the total percent for the semester is below 70%.
I hope all of you do well! If you have questions, I'm here to help you. Just ask! Also, consider getting together with classmates to study for the final. 5/23/18 Math 30 Final Grades and more info about transfer-level math
You may log in to MyOpenMath to see your final grade in the class. You will see a test entered as "Final replace low" which is a duplicate of the grade you earned on the final exam. So there are 5 tests shown, but the lowest score was dropped. So if you did better on the final than your lowest test, the final exam counts twice and your lowest score was not counted. If you did worse on the final, all three tests count and your final counts once. If you open "Final replace low" in your gradebook, click on Feedback to see your final letter grade in the class. These won't be in SURF for at least a couple of days.
I especially enjoyed getting to know those of you who made personal contact with me these past few months. I hope all of you know some more algebra, and even like it!
I wish you a happy, healthy summer! But especially, I wish you the very best in all your endeavors!
Congrats to all who did well in the course! Please read on if you did not do well...
If any of you want to review or keep working on the material from this course, you can always add my free MyOpenMath class: 14512 is the course ID. I also set up a free MyOpenMath Intermediate Algebra course if you plan to go on and would like to get a head start on the material: 24221 is the course ID for Int. Alg.
IMPORTANT INFO: Depending on your major and goals, there are pathways where you do not need Math 30 or Math 64 to take a transfer-level math course. Please discuss with a counselor. Please click this link for the various pathways available to you. Learning about and considering a different pathway could be beneficial If you did not pass or do well in Math 30 this semester.
