4/2/18 Mod 3 Info and Test 2 Review
Everyone should be working in Mod 3. Q17 is due today, 4/2/18. Test 3 dates are 4/26-5/5. At least 2 weeks before Test 3, schedule an appointment to take it with the APC. Then, open T3 appt date/time in the Test Info folder, and enter your info no later than 4/18. Click here to schedule a test. I SUGGEST YOU MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT ASAP. (Note: 5/5/18 is the deadline to take Test 2.)
Below is the schedule. Keep in mind each quiz will be visible in the Calendar and module about a week before it is due, so check often and start working on each quiz at least a few days before its due date. Work includes watching/transcribing assigned videos, and attaching first page of some of your transcribed video notes as in the online assignments. After you transcribe the videos, you should try each problem on your own on a separate piece of paper, without looking at your notes, possibly several times, to make sure you fully understand the examples and can do them on your own. Constant review of problems on videos will help. Consider putting each problem on an index card with the solution on the back to quiz yourself often. If you took Test 2, you may review your answers and see the correct answers in your gradebook. In the folder you see when you log in titled COMPUTER TESTS INFO including Directions. Computer Tests will be in this folder. , you may open Test 2 in review mode, and click the top right corner to create new similar questions to practice as much as you'd like.
Congrats to those of you who did well on the test!
Most of the points in this class are based on test scores, and you need to pass most of the tests to pass the class. So if you did not do well on this test, you'll need to spend more time on this class. There is no extra credit, and tests may not be retaken or taken late. That is why I allow the grade on the final to replace the lowest test score--in case of emergencies or any other reason you miss a test. The material gets more difficult as the semester progresses, and you need to be proficient in the material from Test 1 and Test 2 to have a chance at what's coming up. Do all you can to be successful. Usually that means put in a lot of time. If you don't have the time necessary to do all that is required to fully understand the material and do well on the tests, consider dropping before the withdrawal date of 4/26/18.
If you did not take Test 2, and have not contacted me, you may be dropped unless I hear from you soon. Everyone needs to follow the attendance policies.
4/8/18

NOTE: If you are considering dropping this or any other class, 4/26 is the deadline to do that in SURF.
4/29/18
The deadline to take Test 3 is this Saturday, 5/5. Take it at your scheduled appointment time. If you haven't already done so, click here to schedule your appointment to take the final exam May 16-22. Then, open Final appt date/time in the Test Info folder, and enter your info no later than 5/2. The final is cumulative covering the material over the entire semester. Begin reviewing for it now by doing the reviews and practice tests I've posted over the semester. The key to doing well on tests is to constantly review and practice problems as if you were taking a real test. Sit for 1-2 hours and do problems all on your own. EVERYONE still has an opportunity to pass this class as anyone earning 80% or higher on the final will pass with at least a grade of C even if the total percent for the semester is below 70%.
I recently made several new videos with lots of examples to help you with Q24, which is due next Monday, 5/7. See the links below. Q25 is due 5/10, and Q26 is due 5/14. The dates to take the final exam are 5/16-5/22.
Simplifying Algebraic Complex Fractions Part 1
Simplifying Algebraic Complex Fractions Part 2
Below is a series of videos, showing a lot of examples simplifying complex fractions:
4/30/18 Typo on email sent 4/29/18 Q24 due 5/7/18.
Q24 is due next Monday, 5/7/18. Make sure you begin watching the videos and working on it early this week, even if you don't take the test until later this week. There are only 3 quizzes to do after Test 3. The new material requires you to know factoring very well, and you'll need to keep up on this new material as you start studying for the final. The final covers material from the whole semester, including this new material. There isn't a separate review quiz or a test over Q24-26. So make sure you learn the problems in those quizzes well. If you need to watch videos or look at notes to do problems, you need to work more until you can correctly do them all on your own.
