My online courses are created by me, Julie Harland. The courses use free open source material from a variety of sources, and is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License except as noted below. My courses may use:
Material from a Lumen Learning Open Course Framework
, based on courses created by Tyler Wallace for the Open Course Librar y project. Wallace's textbook Beginning and Intermediate Algebra can be downloaded for free
, or you can order printed copies if you'd prefer.
Material from a course created by James Sousa. The textbook is adapted from work by CK12.org, released under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike
license. You can download the whole book at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28928849/MAT121Chapters/MAT121_Int_AlgebraNoReview.pdf
or purchase printed copies here .
In some browsers (Chrome?), negative signs are not showing for the above book. If that is the case, use a different browser. See page 17 of the text to test whether or not the negative signs are showing up. My experience is that it works in Firefox, and also works when I download the pdf to my computer and open it up from there as opposed to reading it online.
If you are interested in supplemental instruction beyond what I offer in my videos and written material I've created, read on:
Comprehensive OpenStax math books, which are free to download or view online, as well as purchase, is at https://openstax.org/subjects/math. Most are comprehensive, with explanations, definitions, etc. and include many examples and problems. If you would like to read a regular section of a textbook and/or do more problems, one of these books may be the right fit.
Tyler Wallace wrote a free, open source, Beg and Int Alg book that you can download or you can simply read pages online, or try practice problems. These are at http://www.wallace.ccfaculty.org/book/book.html His book does not cover all the topics we cover in our class which is why, for my classes at MiraCosta College, I wrote a Graphing Packet for Elementary Algebra and four packets for Intermediate Algebra, as well as a series of modules for Math for Elementary School Teachers. All are in My Books.
When MyOpenMath first started, several videos were created by Tyler Wallace to help with Prealgebra, Beginning Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra HW problems in MyOpenMath. This is the link to the page containing these videos: http://www.wallace.ccfaculty.org/videos.html#inter
You might want keep this website handy: https://sites.google.com/site/harlandclub/Home/resources. You can also search YouTube for math videos on almost any topic.
There are plenty of free video resources on the web. Also remember you can get help in the MLC, get free tutoring at MCC, come to my office hours, etc. My videos get you started, and are enough for some students. But if you need more help, rely and use other free resources that are available.
